Early in 2007 Smorgon Steet Recycling Western Australia were seeking to replace the Solid tires on our two Cat 246B Bobcats. Crocodile Tires was a name that we were given as a potential supplier. After ringing them and explaining our situation Crocodile Tires were more than happy to allow us to evaluate a set of their tyres. Key areas of concern for us were the following:
1. Wear - Our previous sets of pneumatic tyres were only lasting about 3 ~ 4 months,
2. Driver Fatigue - Due to the nature of our environment and the relative low profile of the pneumatic tyres our drivers have experienced high levels of fatigue after a relatively short duration of operating the Bobcats, and
3. Machine Fatigue - In the past twelve months our two machines have cracked four sumps and broken three sets of engine mounts, not to mention the numerous Hydraulic Lines that were cracking.
As far as we can tell, the Croc tyres have made major improvements in all of our areas of concern; the tyres have been on for about three months and don't even look like wearing out, operators are able to stay in the machines for longer, machine fatigue has been reduced thus reducing downtime which all equates to improved productivityand less cost in parts.
We are now looking to include Crocodile Tyres as suppliers for all our Solid Tire Needs.
